The Anticipation

The curtain is the piece of theatre that cinema kept. Its function was never practical: it is the machinery of expectation, the thing that makes a room full of people agree to look before there is anything to see. The Anticipation is a moving-image triptych — three curtains rising and falling, sequenced in different orders, so the ritual never completes.
