Traces, Group Exhibition at Verge Gallery, University of Sydney, 2016

Traces brings together nine artists, each investigating the role of temporality and memory in shaping our identities. Approaching the concept of traces from disparate artistic practices, the works document, appropriate and re-construct materials, lending new life to images, objects, spaces and histories. The Verge Gallery Volunteer Committee have curated a range of artists currently studying at the University of Sydney. Traces opens a dialogue about the role of the image and object in investigating and reinventing our histories.

Absolutism, 2015

Archival pigment print on cotton rag on mount

100cm x 67cm

The position that within a particular school of thought, all different perspectives are either absolutely true or absolutely false.

“Absolutism” comes from a playful and experimental process which uses photography to stretch the sculptural relationship of the object. Each object has its own life and history and each will go on to be something else and to be part of something new. By reducing a ball of wool to an abstract line whilst exploring the elements of light and space within the studio environment, I hope to redefine the objects’ typical viewing context.
