The Sonnets

In the chaos of now, nature is a mechanism for many to escape and connect. I have always engaged with the natural landscape as a means of self-reflection, often producing large format photographs to show the vastness of the sky, land and sea.

Working with the landscape to evoke ideas of memory, I use the technique of double exposure to create photographs that seem ambiguous, fragmented and in state of transition. Devoid of human presence, the central emphasis of these photographs is the experience of nature's infinity and the realm of the imagination.

When a landscape is observed in twilight, the imagination is free to impose any phenomenon in the shadows cast by the disappearing sun. It is in this very brief time that the camera can capture the atmosphere as it appears - often a rich midnight blue. As day changes to night, the metamorphosis of the landscape compels retrospection.
